Modern Warfare 2 Weapons
One of the best ways to get really good at modern warfare 2 is to become familiar with all of the weapons. You will have to choose from primary weapons, secondary weapons, and all the different attachments that go with the weapons. The best Modern Wafare 2 weapons are the ones that give you the best chance to succeed in whatever map you are playing.
Instead of only choosing the weapons that you like, you should instead choose weapons that give you the best chance to succeed on that map. For example, the ACR is an awesome gun to say the least, but on map Wasteland the ACR may not your best choice, you may instead choose to use the Barrett sniper rifle to give you the best chance to succeed. The Barrett sniper rifle has an unbelievable scope that is unmatched compared to the ACR.
In determining which weapons to use in Modern Warfare 2 you will first need to become familiar with the maps and also learn the playing habits of your opponents. Once you get used to what your opponents are doing and where you should go on the map, then and only then will you be able to select the proper weapons.
Our favorite primary weapons are typically assault rifles and sniper rifles. The assault rifles that we choose to use the most are the M-16, the Scar, ACR, and the M4-A1. We also use the Barrett sniper rifle and the intervention rifle as our sniper rifles in primary weapons.
What we choose to use isn't necessarily what you should use. I am simply stating what our favor weapons are and which ones we like to use.
Our favorite secondary weapon is the AA 12 automatic shotgun. For most of the maps we choose to use this secondary weapon 90% of the time. The AA 12 shotgun destroys anything in close proximity and is one of the baddest guns to use in the game.
The real secret with Modern Warfare 2 weapons is to use them in conjunction with the right perks. For example, the ACR may be one of the most accurate guns in the game, but it does not do much damage as the Scar. Therefore, we choose to use the ACR with the stopping power perk. This simply gives it more damage when you shoot somebody. Sometimes as much as 40% more damage!
Let me give you one example of a class set up that we recommend for map wasteland. As stated above we recommend using the Barrett sniper rifle, the RPG, frag grenade, stun grenade, sleight-of-hand, cold-blooded, and steady aim.
Our killstreak's for this map are the predator missile, the AC 130, and the tactical nuke. Rolling around with this class on map Wasteland may give you the best chance to succeed and dominate your competition. If you can get 11 kills in a row and get to the AC-130 killstreak reward you will be well on your way to the tactical nuke... Game over.
Here is a listing of all the weapons in the game. If you want a full listing with all of our advice and tips on when and where to use each wepon, check out our new eBook HERE.
Primary Weapons
Assault Rifles

This is the infamous gun that you start off with and is a decent gun. It is fully automatic with decent range and a high rate of fire. It does a moderate amount of damage when aimed correctly. I love this gun but stop using it as soon as I open the Scar. Use short controlled bursts to control the slight recoil.

Very similar to the M16 in the fact that it has a three round burst. It’s also very accurate but sucks for close range. Many people enjoy using this gun but we feel that it is too much of an asset when it comes to a close firefight.

One of our favorite and most recommended guns. Great as far as damage goes, but gets a little shaky and in accurate when trying to gun down enemies from far. This gun has a great aim even without the attachment, so if you want to roll with a gun with Bling Pro and use two attachments without the scope, give the Scar a shot.

This is one of the most used and beloved guns that people use in this game…we aren’t sure why. Great damage, poor accuracy. Use it with short bursts and you may have better success.

Lovely gun! Great accuracy and fairly good damage amounts. The only drawback is that it is a single fire rifle. Be careful when in close range because it will take awhile to reload. You may want to use this with Sleight of Hand.

We rate this as the 2nd best assault rifle in this game. The M16 is damn accurate from just about any range and does a great amount of damage. If you are a good aimer and can consistently hit targets in the head, this gun will be perfect for you. You only need one pull of the trigger to take the enemies out if you are accurate.

The best assault rifle in the game…if you use it with Stopping Power. Very, very accurate and a non burst gun which means it will work perfect for short and longer ranges.

This is just an ok gun that has a good amount of rate of fire. It lacks damage power so use it with Stopping Power.

The AK is probably the most destructive and damaging assault rifle in the game, but once the target gets to medium distance, it sucks! If you don’t shoot it in controlled bursts, this gun will bounce all over the place. Load it up though if you want to play tight quarters for maps like Rust.
Sub-Machine Guns

Another ok gun that gives off plenty of damage, if you can hit your opponent. This gun bounces all over the place and we don’t suggest using it unless you are trying to unlock all pieces of every weapon.

This gun does a good amount of damage and we like using it. Fairly accurate from short and medium ranges, has a longer clip than the MP5k, and is fun to play with.

The Vector is the 2nd best sub machine gun in our opinion. It has a high ROF and does a good amount of damage as well. We like it because of its accuracy from the hip.

The best submachine gun on the game. No opinion…fact! Good damage, long clips, high ROF, and very accurate (from short distance).

We like the Uzi because it is fun to play with, but that’s about it. Its okay in damage but not very accurate at all. Use this gun from the hip to take out foes from short distances.
Light Machine Guns:

This is a sad and pathetic gun to say the least. Yes it does have a high rate of fire, but good look hitting the broad side of a barn with this gun. If you can control it, it would probably do some hurt, but good luck doing that.

We like this gun just for the fact that it has extended rounds of fire. You can take out an entire enemy platoon running at you if you had to with this baby. It keeps on going and is fairly accurate. Doesn’t do much in damage but the amount of bullets more than makes up for that.

Another fun gun to play with. The MG4 has a high rate of fire and is surprisingly very accurate, but doesn’t do much in the way of damage.

This might be the best machine gun on the game…period. Besides having a slower rate of fire and smaller clips, we can’t find anything else wrong with this gun. It is very precise and kills enemies easily.

Very cool and fun gun to play with, but that’s about it. It boasts the highest rate of fire of any gun in the game but man it bounces all over the place. Not sure about its damage because I can’t hit anybody with it
Sniper Rifles

I don’t think there is a Sniper Rifle that we don’t like. The Intervention is a beast. Single shot bolt action that recoils like crazy but its scope is the best of the Snipers. Make sure you are in a position where you can really take your time and aim your target down. This gives you the ability to take out targets with one shot, assuming that you hit the target.

Most of the time you will get one shot kills with the Barrett but every once in a while the enemy may slip away with a shot to the leg or lower chest. Aim high and make your shot count or combo it with the Stopping Power.

This sniper offers more of a controlled shot. Very little recoil but if you don’t hit them between the eyes you are going to have to pull the trigger twice.

The M21 is much like the WA where you are going to need to hit the target twice in order to record the kill. Still, these snipers are very, very accurate and are even good to use with the ACOG so you don’t have to zoom in all of the way.
Secondary Weapons
Machine Pistols

This gun is almost identical to the Raffica but is not quite as powerful or accurate. It fires 600 rounds a minute and is accurate up to about 100 meters.

A sweet handgun, but not really what you want to use if you have a choice. Although its fire rate is high, 1200 rounds per minute, its range can be somewhat limited. This is a fully automatic handgun that is fun to use.

The Raffica is a three round burst handgun that can shoot off 1100 rounds a minute. It has very limited range and wont shoot through thin walls.

The TMP is real accurate, but only up to 100 meters. This is a fully automatic handgun that fires 900 rpm. The clip only holds 15 rounds so use it sparingly.
Shotguns:

The Spas is a 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun that can let go about 4 rounds per second. Use this one sparingly thought, as it is great up close, but the machine pistols may be a better option for you.

The sickest weapon in the game without a doubt. 12 Gauge shells with a gas operated automatic system that can deliver a whopping 350 rounds per minute at a range of 200 meters (although in the game you have to be much closer). Simply annihilates everything you shoot it at.

This 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun can deliver up to 40 rounds per minute. Can shoot off 12 rounds in one clip. Fun to use as well…in fact, try all of the shotguns.

The Ranger can be dual wielded and is great for flying around levels with Marathon and Light Weight. Just don’t expect to rack up many killstreaks.

Lever action old school 12/10 gauge shotty. Like the Ranger you too can dual wield this one but not the best shotgun to be using.

This 12 gauge shotgun is actually more powerful than the AA-12 but you have to actually pull the trigger each time you want to fire. No biggy though, this gun is awesome and a great alternative to the AA-12.
Handguns:

Effective from about 200 meters, semi-automatic. One of the weakest guns in the game.

More damaging then the USP but can only shoot down attackers from half as far. Also semi-automatic.

The most accurate of the handguns on Modern Warfare 2. Decent fire rate but just as weak as the .45.

Not very accurate but can really do some good damage. .50 cal in a handgun is great but the recoil is ridiculous.
Launchers:

Single shot 84mm rocket. Don’t need to be locked in to make it work.

Single shot 6 round grenade launcher.

This is a one shot 70mm rocket launcher. Need to be locked in to make this work. Infrared; these guys are great at taking down copters and planes from above.

Single shot but two rockets. Do not need to be locked in, this is a rocket propelled grenade…hence RPG.

This missile was meant to take out tanks and it is a beast. You only get one shot with it, so make it count.
