Modern Warfare 2 Perks
When you are playing online mode and set up your classes you will get to choose one perk from three perk tiers. Each perk will give you an added advantage in the match. Once you complete the initial perk challenge you will then upgrade the perk to the "pro" version. Not everyone in the game will have the same options for perks as they are only opened as your player profile progresses through the game over time.
The nice thing about the Modern Warfare 2 perks is that they compliment the guns, playing styles, and strategies very nicely. You should choose your classes, the guns, grenades, and perks to give you the best chance to succeed depending upon what strategy you plan to use. Here is a brief run through of all the Modern Warfare 2 Perks and what their benefits are.
Modern Warfare 2 Perks Tier One:
Marathon
Marathon gives you the ability to have infinite sprint during a match. Marathon is unlocked at the beginning of the game and is available to use right away. Once that you have used marathon and ran using it for over 26 miles, you will then unlock the Pro version of Marathon. The Pro version means that you can now climb ladders faster and jump over obstacles in half the time it normally would take.
Sleight-Of-Hand
This is a nice little perk I'll allow you to reload your weapons much faster, in half the time it normally would. This perk is unlocked right away and you will be able to begin using immediately. Use this perk with weapons that take a long time to reload like the LMG's and the MG4. When you rack up 120 kills using sleight-of-hand you will open the Pro version which reduces the time used to zoom in or aim down your sites.
Scavenger
The scavenger perk lets a player gather more ammunition simply by picking up ammo from a recently deceased player. This perk is unlocked at level 13 and the Pro version is unlocked once you have resupplied over 100 times using the scavenger perk. The Pro version just gives you more ammunition to begin with.
Bling
The bling perk is opened up at level 21 and lets you add two attachments to your primary weapon. Bling Pro is opened up once you have killed 200 enemies using the regular bling perk. Bling Pro allows you to have to attachments to your secondary weapon as well.
One Man Army
This is kind of a cool perk that will allow you to switch your classes at any time during the game. You'll have to wait 5 seconds during each switch in which you will not be able to fire or use any weapons or equipment. This perk takes over your secondary weapon slot so that when you switch from your primary to secondary it will then bring up the class menu so you can choose another class. This perk is unlocked at level 45 and the Pro version is unlocked after hundred and 120 kills while using the one Man Army perk. The Pro version will simply reduce the amount of time that you have to wait by about 2 seconds.
Modern Warfare 2 Perks Tier 2:
Stopping Power
Stopping power is the first of the tier 2 perks and allows you to increase the amount of damage you do with both your primary and secondary weapons by as much as 40%. This is one of our favorite perks which we use most of the time. Getting an extra 40% damage on your enemy is a really good perk, too much so not to use. This perk is unlocked at level 4 and the Pro version is opened up once you kill 250 enemies using it. The Pro version is pretty worthless in my opinion because it gives you increased damage on enemy vehicles, which won't do you much good.
Lightweight
Lightweight is a great perk that is unlocked at the beginning of the game and works well with the Marathon perking tier 1. This'll just let you move faster and gives you 10% speed burst when you first go to Sprint. The Pro version will let you in gun your opponent and fire much faster after engaged in a sprint. Pro version is unlocked after 30 miles of using lightweight.
Cold-Blooded
The cold-blooded perk is unlocked at level 25. This perk makes you invisible to thermal scopes into many of the weapons unlocked during kill streak rewards. For example, sentry guns, helicopters, UAVs, and even the Harriers will not be able to lock you down using Cold-blooded. Even the player controlled kill streak rewards like the predator missile and AC-130 will be able to see you but you will not have a thermal image.
When you destroy over 40 enemy kill streak rewards using cold-blooded you will then unlock the Pro version of this perk. The Pro version will take away your name that is in red above your player and the crosshairs as well.
Danger Close
The danger close perk is a perk that will increase explosive damage by about 40%. This perk is unlocked at level 33 and the Pro version is unlocked after getting 100 kills by using explosive materials while using the danger close perk. The Pro version increased amount of damage you get from your kill streak records by dairy or, chopper gunner, and sentry guns by over 40%.
Modern Warfare 2 Perks Tier 3:
Commando
Commando the first of the tier 3 perk rewards in modern Warfare 2. This perk will increase the players melee distance and will make it easier to kill somebody from further way when using the knife melee maneuver. Once you kill 20 players with commando on you'll unlock the Pro version. The Pro version will make sure that you receive no damage when falling from high distances. We primarily use commando and commando Pro 80% of the time as our tier 3 perk.
Ninja
The ninja perk is unlocked at level 29 and really only lets you be invisible from other players heartbeat sensors. Once you kill 50 players from a short distance you'll unlock the Pro version of ninja. Ninja Pro will just let you be much quieter when moving around in the maps. Your footsteps and ladder climbing noises will be reduced by around 75%.
SitRep
The SitRep perk is unlocked at level 37. This perk will you see enemy explosives and the tactical inserts much easier than without it. The equipment will show glowing in a reddish color and you will be able to see it through walls and other objects. After you destroy 120 pieces of any meal equipment you'll unlock the Pro version of SitRep. The Pro version of this perk will make your enemies footsteps for times louder and your teammates what steps for times quieter.
We like the Pro version of this perk a lot. You don't think at first that it would make much of a difference, but it really does.
Steady Aim
The only thing that steady aim does is that it will reduce the size of the crosshairs by around 35%. This will just make it easier to zoom in on an object or enemy. We've also noticed that it will make shotguns more accurate by limiting the spray effect which most shotguns have. This means it will do more damage but in a more confined area.
The Pro version of studying will simply allow you to hold your breath longer when scoping people with sniper rifles.
Scrambler
This perk will simply scramble the radar of the enemies are close to you. Their radars will turn static and appear a little faded. While you might think that this might be somewhat of an advantage it can also be somewhat of a disadvantage as well letting enemies know that there's somebody close when their radar gets fuzzy. The Pro version will protect you more from Claymore's. When you trip the Claymore it will take much longer to detonate giving you an opportunity to get the hell out of the way.
Last Stand
The last stand perk in Modern Warfare 2 will keep you alive when you normally should be dead. If you get hit anywhere but the head were not killed by a melee or explosion the last stand perk will put you to the ground but you'll still be alive. This works great when you get hit from a long distance and will allow you to revive if nobody kills you within the next 10 seconds. You can also use your weapons and fight back to defend yourself in last stand.
When you kill 20 people in last stand you'll unlock the Pro version. Last stand Pro will simply allow you to use your equipment when you are in last stand. This way you can cook a grenade and kill yourself so the other team does not get the points.
